Background and Proprietorship
Expedia was founded and launched on the 22nd of October 1996 by the Microsoft company. The original team members were: Byron Bishop, Soraya Bittencourt, Richard Barton and Greg Slyngstad. By 2001, Bill Gates, Microsoft’s co-founder and former CEO, decided to spin off Expedia due to various reasons.
Since August 2005, the Chief Executive Officer of Expedia.com and Expedia, Inc. has been Dara Khosrowshahi, an Iranian American. Prior to joining Expedia, Khosrowshahi has worked for InterActiveCorp — specifically in the IAC Travel division — where he took the role as the company’s CEO.
What People Think of Expedia
Being one of the giants in the OTA field, one would expect that Expedia has, at least, a good reputation. Sadly, this does not seem to be the case as most of the customer reviews that I’ve found on different review sites are negative. Here, I will be sharing to you some of them.
“Expedia has the worst customer service of all time,” exclaimed a customer. According to her, she had called Expedia to book a flight using her flight credits. After 5 hours of being put on hold and her call being dropped seven times (Expedia does not call back, she says), she had finally reached a manager. An incapable one, she said. According to the customer, the manager didn’t have the capability to access her flight credits because he did not have the same tools as the customer service team.
Another customer had complained about being charged twice. This customer said that his credit card was charged twice, and even after showing the representatives his official receipt and a screenshot of an ad, presumably a flight/vacation promo, the representatives still refused to acknowledge his complaint.
Several customers were also appalled by the quality of Expedia’s customer service. Aside from long waiting times and frequently dropped calls, the managers also seem to ignore most customer concerns.

Not the Best Online Travel Agency
After searching for the latest Expedia Reviews 2016, I have found that most of their customers have experienced bad service from the representatives; surprisingly even the supervisors and managers seemed to be indifferent to their customers’ needs. Hopefully, someday Expedia would address such issues and help improve their reputation. Until then, expect to hear more complaints from this company’s customers.
