The flag carrier and the largest airline in Finland. Finnair is headquartered in Vantaa, and has its main hub in Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. With uninterrupted existence, Finnair is the oldest airline in the world, and consistently third on the list of the safest airlines in the world. Finnair is a member of OneWorld Alliance and flies over 110 destinations in 37 countries around the world in Asia, Europe and North America.
Origins and Ownership
Bruno Lucander founded Finnair as Aero Y/O (Aero Ltd), in 1923. Lucander previously run the Finnish operations of the Estonian airline Aeronaut. In mid-1923 he concluded an agreement with Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG to provide aircraft and technical support, in exchange for a 50% ownership for the new airline. The charter establishing the company was signed on September 1923, and the company was entered into the trade register on December 1923. The first flight was on March 20 1924, from Helsinki to Tallinn, Estonia, on a Junkers F13—an aircraft equipped with floats.
The current President and Ceo of Finnair: Pekka Vauramo, Joined Finnair from Cargotec, a Finnish cargo and load handling company, where he held different management positions since 2007. Pekka Vauramo was appointed Finnair’s President and Chief Executive Officer in April 2013 and is still running the company up to this day.

“Customer service before and during the flight was really good. The flight was so smooth and was easy and not stressful. The boarding process was also smooth. I had ordered a gluten free meal and for areoplane food i was really impressed. On the flight to Bangkok We received 2 meals and a snack. Also had free soft drinks, water and juice. The films were recent and there was a good selection. The seats had enough leg room and were able to recline slightly. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend Finnair.”

“The new Airbus A350 which Finnair operates on this flight is great. Light, the cabin offers a spacious feeling, quiet, good entertainment system. Good service, regular (average) food. Even Economy class (Economy plus is also available) offers an acceptable legroom. Very good price/quality ratio. The route from Amsterdam via Helsinki to Asia (and back) was new to me. Helsinki has become quit a hub for flights from Europe to Asia (a lot of flights to Japan & China depart from Helsinki). The airport is expensive though (for instance: a Burger King hamburger costs Euro 9,50) and has narrow corridors but is for the rest OK.”

“Check in was good on the way out but slow on the way back because only one desk open for bag drop for those who had got boarding passes online. Also baggage was slow out on the way back at Heathrow. The rest of the flights were good and staff all friendly. Cabins, entertainment and food on board were good too.”
