Aside from the four founders, they also received support from major airlines US Airways (then America West), American Airlines, Continental Airlines, and Northwest Airlines.

Aside from their website, Hotwire also developed a mobile app which aims to offer a faster, more reliable online booking experience to travelers.

They offer hotel rooms to 40,000 cities all over the world, which can range from boutique rooms to more luxurious accommodations. The app features an interactive map which people can use not only to search hotels in a specific area, but also to compare the prices between the hotels.

Car rental services may also be purchased within the app. Hotwire allows users to choose from major car for hire brands like Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise, and others.

It should be noted that you can only book when connected to the internet.

People’s experience with the app

The Hotwire Mobile App reviews are quite mixed. When the app works properly, clients can easily look for hotel rooms and car rental services that are available on specific locations. However, when the app refuses to work properly, clients experienced numerous “Uh-oh” errors and many were unable to access the itineraries. Here are some of the reviews:

“…most recently we purchased a week at a 5 star hotel in Paris based on their “hot rate” which claimed to slash a $675 per night room over 60% off to “only” $250. After the booking gave us the name of the hotel–Renaissance Paris Le Park Trocodero — We looked up and assumed we were getting a suite or family room based on rate. However, after getting here we were given a very nice but cramped and basic room which is published at under $250 on Expedia and similar sites. After emailing and calling Hotwire we we were given absolute runaround.

Other reviews talk about the app suddenly crashing in the middle of a booking while others complained about the lack of booking alteration feature.

The verdict

Hotwire is a large online travel agency, however, their services — especially the mobile app — seems to cause more inconvenience to travelers instead of making their lives easier. Hidden charges, deceptive pricing, and other unscrupulous practices are only some of the complaints that people have of the company.

Their app is still imperfect, it is riddled with bugs and it crashes too frequently.
