According to the website, Travelstart is Sweden’s first online travel agency and was initially operated inside a coffee shop in Malmö, the third largest city of Sweden. Now, the company is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Mr. Ekberg has served as the company’s Chief Executive Officer ever since its founding, and is responsible for overseeing all operations and business strategies of the company. Born in Skåne, Sweden on the 25th of January 1960, Ekbergh had decided to drop school at the age of 18 and decided to make money by entering various industries. Eventually, he began venturing into online travel agencies and the rest is history.

What people are saying

Uh-oh. Unfortunately for Travelstart — and those who have already decided to book with them — most customer reviews were mainly negative. On trustpilot, for example, the first page of Travelstart reviews were riddled with one-star ratings.

One passenger said “[Travelstart] Charged us for 4 unwanted flights without our permission”. The passenger who booked a flight for two from Gaborone to Victoria complained about the company’s faulty system. Luckily for them, the money was still in transit and they were able to get it back before it reached Travelstart, although they did lose a small amount from currency conversion.

More customers complained about the company’s incompetence causing them loads of trouble.

There’s hardly any images found on their homepage, not even a header image can be found, which is strange considering most OTAs have at least one large image displaying their featured services.

In the middle of the homepage, you will find the flight search and booking form. Additionally, they also offer hotel and car-rental services.

The Travelstart reviews already made it clear why this OTA may not be the best choice for some people. If you are in a tight budget, you may want to look for other agencies because this one has been known to shamelessly rip cash from their customers’ bank accounts.

    Very slow customer service. I can’t recommend this agency lest they improve their services.

    That’s true this travel agency very slow even if the customer service via telephone or website, I have much long waiting for them when I call the customer service in regards with my ticket. Because I booked my ticket to travelstart and supposed to be the Fare is showed only QAR1905 but they said that there’s a charge of QAR50, then is ok for me coz’ its not a big amount. Then now the total of my payment is QAR1955 for my ticket and I pay it already with my card. Then on other day I received an email that only QAR1905 credit to my account then I have a balance a QAR50 I received a call from them and she said I need to pay the balance of QAR50 in other card, the question is why did not deduct the full amount in my card? and why I need to change my card for the payment of my balance? I think this travel agency is crazy.
